I have entitled this psalm, a psalm for the church and even though it gives us several specifics, it is still part of the bigger picture of the unmatched, unmerited favor that the LORD has bestowed upon humankind. Verses 17 and 18 are two verses that stand out to me and again I am reading from the NRSV:
17. “Some were sick through their sinful ways, and because of their iniquities endured affliction, 18. they loathed any kind of food, and they drew near to the gates of death.” Let us not assume (as the Pharisees did) that everyone who is sick has sinned and God is punishing them through sickness. People do get sick because of their lifestyle, that we know, but that is not always the case…those who live Godly in Christ Jesus get sick sometimes too. Have you ever been so sick that just the thought of food makes you sick? I’m sure we have all been there at one time or another. However the answer is still found in desperate praying…VERSE 19 “Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He saved them from their distresses, 20. He sent out His Word and healed them, and delivered them from destruction.” The Word of God is alive and it is powerful it says in Hebrews 4:12…it can heal and deliver as the psalm writer declares here in this portion I have been quoting from. All you need can be found within its pages…just obey it and take God at His Word; take it at face value, you can trust His Word, you can stand on His Word…..I know, I have had to many times and He has answered when I cry out to Him. In the 4th. Chapter of Genesis, the very last verse says, “And as for Seth, to him also was a son born; and he named him Enosh” And then it says, “ Then men began to call on the name of the LORD.”
“Then began men to call on the name of the LORD” People did not always pray…and they still don’t. Paul said to pray without ceasing. Jesus said that men ought always to pray and not faint. When we face a difficulty that we cannot handle, we need to pray and when things are going great….that’s when we really need to pray because that’s when we are most vulnerable. Prayer is the way through all circumstances. Maybe it is a sick loved one or perhaps it is of a spiritual nature…could be financial, whatever, …back in Genesis chapter four somebody found the truth, they found the answer…”Then men began to call on the name of the LORD.”
Are you at the point of despair? Has the enemy of your soul said things will never change, that lost loved one will never get saved? He is a liar….God still answers when we call on Him in faith believing, desperate prayer.

God is GOOD....we keep saying this but do we realy believe it,God can do anything,we also know this but do we believe it....what do we realy want from God ?
WE all know the answer and it is everthing and MORE because everthing is not enough....did you ever say to GOD "GOD grant me this favour and I will never ask another and he grants it....God grants all our favours but he doesn't want or expect us not to ask again and again and again,we will always ask and GOD will always give.....but sometimes when GOD gives " WE " will not understand what HE has done because it seems opposite [ its not ]and we take time to consider ,this is what we have ask for,so keep on asking GOD expecting and he will answer all your prayers.....BUT remember HE is GOD and HE always knows best.
Coffee
Randall, something you said just jumped off the page at me.
It was unmatched and unmerited favors from God.I can't count the times that I've had unmerited favors from God,all the times I called out and He answered. He truly is unmatched by anyone or anything here on earth.
He does and will always answer the prayers of the believing heart
