A Child of God
What does it mean to be a Child of God? I remember several years ago when those hippy like characters would try to get our attention at every major intersection carrying literature and holding up home made placards declaring themselves to be children of God. A movement which seems to have fizzled like so many others has done. I used to feel sorry for them, they were just kids late teens early twenties maybe. I don’t think too many of them really had any concept of what it meant to be children of God.
The apostle Paul writes in Gal. 3:26, “For we are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.” That’s what makes us children of God….faith in Christ Jesus and His finished work on the cross of Calvary. Only by faith and through faith can we wear the name “Child of God.”Faith in Christ Jesus and Him alone. Again quoting from the writings of Paul in Eph. 2:4-9, “But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ(by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace, in His kindness toward us, through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of GOD:
Not of works, lest any man should boast. “ KJV
That is what a Child of God is…verse 10 of Eph. 2 says, “For We are His workmanship created in Christ unto good works.” To the worldly way of thinking, this is foolish, but look at what the Word of God says

The Wisdom of God
18 The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. 19 As the Scriptures say,
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”[a]
20 So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. 22 It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. 23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.
24 But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles,[b] Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.
26 Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy[c] when God called you. 27 Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 28 God chose things despised by the world,[d] things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. 29 As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.
30 God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. 31 Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.
Why then should we be timid about declaring our faith? After all you are a child of God; I am a child of God. Let’s share this truth with others and let’s start today. Maybe you have thought “what can I say to bring someone to Jesus?” Do what you can and let Him do the rest…sometimes the fruit isn’t seen for a time but eventually it will show. It is up to us to help another become a child of God. Recently I learned about somebody that I worked with many years ago and witnessed to him about the Lord. I never thought of myself as a good witness but that man accepted Jesus and said I had been the cause of his accepting Christ and he in turn has led others to the Lord and after these years, it was told to me and I thank the Lord for it. So just let God lead and do what you can; just live the life. You are a child of God.
