Eternity is a long long time;where will you spend it?

Have you ever made an appointment and forgot what the time and date was supposed to be? Consequently you showed up too late to keep it? I remember having that situation occur in my life one time and it was extremely embarrassing; especially so when the person I was supposed to meet ragged me out and I had to eat humble pie. My doctor had made an appointment with a dietician at the area hospital and I had committed it to memory. And that was back when I had a memory (ha!) Actually my memory still works and I thank God that it does; many folks do not enjoy that luxury anymore and my heart goes out to them.
Getting back to my story, the dietician found me waiting out in the hall and I had wasted an hour of her time. It was not pleasant, as they say, “not a pretty sight” So I begged her forgiveness and ate a little crow and she showed her gracious side and all was forgiven. Whew! I learned a valuable lesson that day, never stand up your dietician; keep your appointment.
Yesterday we went to visit my wife’s aunt and while she was visiting her aunt I went to see another couple; only they were not home. I had not made an appointment. So I drove around the bay area where they all live until I found their car, or at least it looked like their car. Two white Kia’s in the same community…..who would have guessed? It certainly looked like their’s, another lesson learned. Never assume that someone is waiting for you if you haven’t informed them of your coming and never depend upon appearances to tell you such and such is so. You have to look closer to see the hidden truth sometimes. Like the heart, “God looks on the heart” Maybe you never have made an appointment with a dietician or for that matter any kind of professional help. And by the way my reason for the dietician was not to lose weight; it was because of a chloresteral problem…..in those days I didn’t need to lose weight. Now I do. However, all that aside I want to talk about keeping appointments.
There is an appointment that every man, every woman and every child has to face at some time. The Bible says “it is appointed unto every man (women and children understood) once to die. We have an appointment to keep with the grim reaper whether we want to or not because the Bible teaches that while death is an enemy, it is the last one to be eliminated. So we will keep that appointment. And we cannot escape it. The Bible tells us also that we will spend eternity somewhere; either in heaven (oh, joy) or we’ll spend it in hell (horrors!) I can’t imagine how horrific hell must be. There won’t be any chance of a missing identity either…a person may look like a Christian but is the registration correct. The car I thought was Lewis’s car had a different registration; it looked like his car but I had the wrong car. If I had known his license plate number i.e. registration, I would have not bothered to look for them any further. You can’t assume everything is all right. You must make sure of it. One might look like a Christian, maybe even talk like one but under it all is a life that has never made the right appointment. There is an appointment you have to make to insure that after death you will go to heaven. And that is an appointment with God whereby a person surrenders their life to the finished work that Jesus the Son of God has accomplished when He died on the cross at Calvary over two thousand years ago. For you see after death is the judgment and if your name is not found written in the Lamb’s Book of Life THEN YOUI WILL MISS HEAVEN the greatest tragedy that anybody could ever or will ever face. If you miss heaven; you miss everything. It won’t matter that Mom and Dad are Christians. It won’t matter if you have been brought up in a Christian home. It won’t matter that you go to church and it won’t matter if you are even a good person. The only thing that will matter is if your name is found written by God in the Lamb’s Book of Life. The only way that can happen is by believing in the finished work of Christ on the cross and by faith accepting Him as your own personal savior. You have to be registered in the Book. You have to have the correct registration…. It won’t matter that you look the part. So in the light of eternity….a long, long time…forever
And forever; what are you waiting for?
What can wash away my sin? Absolutely nothing but the blood of Jesus. Absolutely nothing but His blood. Nothing else will do….not good works…not your family background…not anything; but the blood of Jesus! There is an old song that says Jesus makes everything right. I gave Him my old tattered garments and He gave me a robe of pure white…We will keep that appointment; the only thing is we don’t know when it will be, so we have to always be ready.
Always, always, always be ready! I can’t stress it’s importance enough. He has extended His grace to include each and every one of us today. If you don’t know Him, please accept Him today….don’t miss out. I wouldn’t miss heaven for all of the world.
Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. I pray today for anybody who reads this blog and has not yet kept the most important appointment of all; the Bible says today is the day of salvation, so keep that appointment today In the book of Hebrews it says in ch. 3 and verse 15 “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” And this is referring to rebellious Israel when they were in the wilderness heading for their promised land. Verse 19 says "So we see they could not enter in because of unbelief. "Unbelief will keep you out of heaven and you will spend eternity in hell. So don’t harden your heart today just accept Jesus as your savior. You can ask Him into your heart and life and He will come in and save you. In the book of Revelation it says in chapter 3 and verse 20, “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Open the door today friend.

I know too well what life is like without Jesus. Sometimes it seemed so much easier not to serve Him, but the rewards are so much greater. Oh what a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see. When I look upon His face, I know He saves me by His grace. When He takes me by the hand and leads me to the promise land, what a day, glorious day that will be!! No matter what you have done, He will always forgive you. Thank you Jesus for your precious blood!!
